Type A--new here

topic posted Sat, November 19, 2005 - 6:42 PM by  Daniel
Hi,

I've been on the A diet for five years, and feel great for it. Rarely ever get a cold, infection, flu.. My weight has been a few pounds over ideal, mainly from lack of exercise sometimes, but maybe from eating too much chicken, turkey, etc. I'm considering going vegetarian (with the occasional salmon or sardine exception). Any comments?

I'm a Type A too and love the diet. I have been following it for about the same amount of time, with varying degrees of stringency. Most everything I buy for the kitchen is Type A, but when I eat out I am a bit more lax. I also eat maybe more chicken and turkey than I should. I feel great and rarely get sick. Still have some skin issues sometimes, but I have had noticeable improvements with this, along with better digestion, stress management, sex drive, and energy levels. The one thing I don't do well at following is D'Adamo's sleep recommendations. I stay up too late, linger in bed in the morning, and sometimes don't get a full 8 hours. But come to think of it, this has improved in the past year or so as well. I think the meat thing is something you just have to experiment with. I know for myself I could go completely vegetarian and I would be fine. I eat meat out of convenience mostly.

    Be Well,

I have to agree with all you say, David, I forgot the digestion part--I used to think I was born with a wacked digestive system. It's fine now. I'm liking fish too much to go vegetarian, though I know I would thrive. In the morning I like scrambled tofu. BTW, don't you like it that we benefit from coffee and red wine? And like you, I have lousy sleep habits and never get enough time in bed, and I can't nap.

      Take care, Daniel

Yes, I consider coffee and red wine to be medicines. As with any medicine, you can still overdo it. I have to drink decaf because the caffeine makes me a wreck. But other than that, I don't see why coffee has gotten such a bad rap. It's so good for me! For alcohol I only drink red wine and occasionally vodka with either cranberry juice or grapefruit juice. I never liked white wine, and I can really feel how beer is not good for me. Every time I drink it I feel a little ill. It's amazing how different forms of alcohol will affect you differently. I don't like mixed drinks for that reason. Add too many types of alcohol along with too much sugar and it is just disastrous for me. Not drinking right now. Taking a break until the holidays. Sugar is another thing I forgot to mention in my original post. While not strictly an avoid for Type A's, I still feel that too much sugar is one of the worst things for my body. It affects my skin and my immune system. I'm not really a sweet tooth, but when it's around I sometimes get lured, and then it becomes a habit. If it weren't available I really would not miss it all. I tend to go for salty and sour for my comfort foods. Anyway, I could go on and on. I'll stop, for now.

This is almost weird. Like you white wine almost makes me sick, I don't like sweet drinks, the only way I can handle vodka is in grapefruit or cranberry, and I'll have the occasional beer knowing it makes me feel unwell. For some reason though I like gin, esp. w/ tonic. In the last week I've given up coffee and I'm not missing it much, I have 2-3 cups of tea instead, Earl Grey or green. And like the red wine and coffee, tea is also medicinal. Before I started this diet, I always ate candy and pastries, and now they've lost their appeal completely. Still like the salty snacks, but rarely eat them, maybe peanuts sometimes. The diet has given me a great appreciation of vegetables, and I crave and eat all kinds. Love parsnips, spinach, turnips. And like you, I'll stop, for now.

          Later, D
