I hope this question makes some sense.....

Hi - I'm new here, and I have one big question which is blocking me:

I'm O... my dad was OO and my mom was OB (so she's B)..... doesn't that mean I have some B is me? My ancestry (almost all of our ancenstries) are very mixed with ABO. Must my body behave according to my blood type? What if I got my stomach and its acid content from my mom's genes? MUST blood type dictate digestive power?

I'm sorry if this question comes up all the time and I just missed it. Thanks!

you would have to go get tested to know for sure.
I'm not sure how it works but i found out if you donate blood the will tell you which type your are for free, it cost $50 at you doctor.
also it matters if you a secretor or non-secretor you'd have to pay for that at your doctor.
    • i already know i am type O. my question was more about whether or not the other blood types in my ancestry effect my true (O-type) digestive behavior. i'm sure they do (for example, i tolerate dairy easily) but i'm just wondering to what extent.

Lynn, I don't think it's solely about digestive power, but rather how certain foods affect your body overall, based on how your body reacts to the presence of lectins. For example, I can eat chicken. I can digest chicken. But when I eat enough of it, I either feel very tired the next day, or my sinuses clog up. However, I did a much more thorough metabolic work-up with a nutritionist, and have found that foods I had been avoiding were probably not going to be so horrendous, whereas other foods which I had been eating with abandon were not so good for me after all. If you really want to get to the bottom of this matter, I recommend you see a metabolic nutritionist for an in-depth analysis.

You are 100% pure O, because you gget 50% of your ggenes from one of your mum's eggs and 50% from your dad's sperm. Each (normal) egg/sperm contains exactly half of its host's DNA. So, in your parents case, your mum has bothh O eggs and B eggs, whiloe your dad has only O sperm to contribute. When you were concieved, your dad's O sperm fertilized one of your mum's O eggs, therefore making you a full-blooded, carnivorous O.
Hope that made sense. I knew grade 11 Biology would come in handy somewhere down the line...

    Lynn,

You only get one gene from each parent. So your mom could have given you a B or an O, but not both of them. Your dad has two O's, so he can only give you an O. So with your parent's genes you could have been an O or a B only. If your mom gave you a B you would be a B, since it is dominantly expressed over the recessive O gene. But since they each gave you an O gene, you are OO - type O! Sorry I'm not a geneticist and it's been a long time since college so I don't know all the terms - phenotype? genotype? something like that..

    Hope my wordy explanation helped.

ok everyone, thank for your genetics lessons, but i know i'm OO. i guess my question didnt make sense.

forget that i'm OO. cant the fact that my mom is a B (BO, obviously) alter the way my body behaves? maybe it makes me need to heed the guidlelines of both O and B.... just wondering if any of you have noticed that your body wants a B diet, even if you're O, because a parent was B (for example). or does MY blood type determine EVERYTHING i need to know here.

We all need to keep in mind the difference between a physiological food "want" and an emotional one. Food cravings are complicated, and I think even the most careful person, one who abides by very wise nutritional guidelines, would have difficulty identifying whether or not a desire for a certain food stemmed from "what the body wants," as opposed to "what makes me feel good." So perhaps your desire for a B diet is related to foods that your mom prepared for you, foods that nourished her in a more effective way than they nourish you? Just a thought ...
